You have chosen to learn to speak Russian. The Russian language
is one of the six languages that are spoken at the United
Nations. When going to Russia to learn Russian you will want
to keep an open mind. Many people have their own preconceived
ideas about the country. But you will be pleasingly surprised
at what you find. When going to Russia for language courses
you will want to check out the schools in St. Petersburg and
Moscow. Some of the great writers and poets have come from
a Russian back ground like Puskin and Tolstoy and many more
great literary artists. Some of the schools in Russia have
special tours and social functions for students all year long.
This will give you many great opportunities to get yourself
acquainted with both the people and many beautiful cities
like Moscow and St. Petersburg .When going to St. Petersburg
you will want to visit the Historical City Center. There,
you will be surrounded by the magnificent architecture. It
is one of the few great centers that has stood the test of
time. When St. Petersburg was first built. it was a military
base and trade center. Soon it would become the Russian capital
by the sea. It would only last for a little over 200 years.
By 1918 under Lenin, Moscow would become the new capital of
Russia and still is the capital today. The weather in St.
Petersburg is relatively mild but can get very humid all year
round. So carry your umbrellas. The Russian language school
in the center of Moscow is a walking distance to the Metro
train station, as well as moderately priced cafes to have
lunch. Or get that much needed coffee to get you going before
school in the mornings. Going to school in Russia to learn
the Russian language makes it easier to learn. Because you
will be able to speak to many people who will assist you in
learning the correct pronunciations of words. And most importantly
when to use them. On your days off from school in Moscow you
might want to visit Red Square, the designer boutiques of
Gum Street and St. Basils Cathedral. If you choose to stay
with a host family it can be a benefit to you. By doing this,
the host family can help you to learn the language and the
culture. The more you show your host family you are interested
in learning and being part of the family, the more willing
they will be in helping you to assimilate into the life and
language of the Russia people. They will also help you to
learn the street signs around Moscow and St. Petersburg. To
help you avoid getting lost as easy as someone with no help
at all. Both in Moscow and schools in St. Petersburg you will
have to take a placement test. After completing the test you
will be put in the appropriate class for your level of knowledge.
Just remember your host family will be there for you if you
give them the chance to. And a long standing friendship will
be created as well.
