Languge School

The language centre is located in the most popular tourist destination in South Africa, the Victoria and Alfred Waterfront. It is ten minutes away from most homestay facilities and most students can walk to class.

Students have a spectacular view of Table Mountain on one side and the Waterfront complex on the other, right from their classroom windows. Less than a minute away lies the shopping centre of the Waterfront where visitors can experience the full measure of what the Cape can offer. There are many restaurants, pubs, boutiques, cinemas and all kinds of places to shop.

Our teachers are qualified, experienced and committed to providing enjoyable and rewarding lessons. Students will find their teachers are always ready to offer advice about studies or any aspect of the student’s stay

Our teaching is based around communication, which means that students have lots of opportunity in class to speak English, to practice the skills they will need outside of the classroom and to become more confident in their ability to interact in English.

There is high-speed wireless Internet and web access, which is free to students. The school computers are equipped with computer-based learning software as well as links to useful English-learning websites. As part of students’ regular study schedule they will spend time with their teacher on computer-based learning.

South Africa Field Guide school

Our academy  is based on a 10 000 hA reserve near Thabazimbi in the Waterberg area of the Limpopo province. The campus takes 40 students and there are 5 instructors which gives the student training excellence and personal attention.

Much of the initial training takes place on the Leadwood Reserve where several species of antelope, giraffe, zebra, wildebeest, white rhino, leopard and hippo reside.

Highlights

This is a one year program, with lots of hands on experience to become a qualified Field Guide.

The courses are structured to maximise the practical experience of students in the bush.
We believe that practical knowledge is as important as theoretical, and each day allows for time spent in the field interpreting the ecology and enjoying a wildlife experience.
A typical day starts bright and early with a 2½ hour game drive or guided walk, focussing on the subject of that particular week.

All practical groups then meet up at The Bush Academy campus for breakfast and a 3 hour classroom session.

Students then have a couple of hours free time to go into town, catch a nap, relax or study.
Students then meet for the afternoon practical session, which is followed by dinner, and if the course work calls for it – evening activities such as frogging, night drives, astronomy or sleep outs under the stars.

Although there is a structure in place for the day's activities, it is flexible to allow for time to get involved in other experiences as they arise.

Tests on the subjects covered during the week are written on a Sunday.  The course is very intensive and dedication to study is needed to get through and students are encouraged to study throughout the week
