Ixtapa- Zihuatanejo are twin towns located 240 Km North of Acapulco, on the section of the Pacific Coast called the Mexican Riveria or Costa Grande. Although located right next to each other they have quite a different ambiance. Ixtapa is a resort town that was built in 1970 whereas Zihuatanejo is a picturesque fishing village only 7 km away from Ixtapa. The Zihuatanejo international airport is 15 km away from Ixtapa, or a short 20-minute drive. Ixtapa is a modern tourist resort with a multitude of hotels, shopping arcades, 2 golf courses, a marina, a commercial area, an 8-km bike track, crossing the jungle and ending in Playa Linda. You can take a boat and cross to the Isla Ixtapa and find snorkeling areas or enjoy a day at the beach tasting a delicious fresh seafood lunch in the restaurants. Ixtapa has a nice variety of international and regional restaurants which offer excellent value and service. Zihuatanejo’s main attraction is its peaceful and sheltered bay where boating and swimming are a pleasure all year around. The Zbest known beaches are La Ropa, La Madera and Las Gatas. This small town has two large super markets (Bodega Aurrerá and Comercial Mexicana) where you can find anything from groceries to tools, clothes, stationery and pharmacy. Go early in the morning to the market to get fresh fish, vegetables and fruit. Both towns have art crafts markets where you can find ceramic, silver, and all kinds of souvenirs. |
