Florence is the city of art, sculpture, history, culture and romance. It is the capital of the region of Tuscany, famous for the landscape, villas and wines. Florence has a population of about half a million inhabitants. It flanks the mighty n the Arno River. Florence bustles with craft, culture, art and science. More than anything, Florence is about history. You can feel it as you walk the narrow historic centre, the building, the atmosphere. This is where you will find the works of Cimabue and Giotto, the fathers of Italian painting, lived here, along with Donatello and Masaccio, founders of the Renaissance, and the geniuses of Leonardo da Vinci and Micchelangelo (for example the statue of David) . In Florence, thanks to Dante the Italian language was born, and with Galileo came the modern experimental science. Up to the time of Charlemagne, Florence was a university town. The surrounds areas also have much to offer. The Chianti area, near Florence is one of the most beautiful countryside’s in Italy and a famous wine production area. This is the area of fantastic countryside whose photos feature in many travel brochures and guide books. Best Time to Go All year round! Florence is a fantastic destination. The busiest time of the year is from May to September (summer season). The weather is warm and sunny. Some students prefer the quieter winter and spring months (from November to April) when fewer students are in the school and fewer travelers are in Florence |
