Manual Antonio and San Jose

Are partners with the University of Mississippi (UM) to offer academic credits. Being a private language school the classes are very small (maximum of 12) and there is excellent personalised service. T

Students may earn 6-12 credits equivalents  of Spanish 198 (beginner),  298 (intermediate) or 398 (advanced) depending on their language level.

If there is a UM group program offered concurrently during your planned dates of study, the non-UM applicant is asked to apply to and participate in the UM group program. This policy applies especially to students applying for the summer

SPAN 101 Elementary Spanish I. This is a basic Spanish course which includes cultural information about the Spanish-speaking world. This course includes developing reading, writing and conversational skills for communication in the Spanish language. 

SPAN 102 Elementary Spanish II. This course is a continuation of the SPAN 101 course. 

SPAN 201 Intermediate Spanish I. This course works on building Spanish proficiency and learning cultural information about the Spanish-speaking world. 

SPAN 202 Intermediate Spanish II. This course is a continuation of SPAN 201, emphasizing communication and culture of the Spanish-speaking world. 

SPAN 301 Composition and Conversation I. Development of speaking and writing skills including creative expression, working with higher-level texts and the study of more complex grammatical structures. 

SPAN 302 Composition and Conversation II. Continuation of SPAN 301. 

SPAN 303 Business Spanish. Technical vocabulary used in the business world. Writing business letters and common business protocol are taught.. This course requires at least four semesters  of Spanish or its equivalent. 

SPAN 304 Medical Spanish. Technical vocabulary to be applied in the health field. This course is for people who are going to work in health related fields.

Tamarindo

Are partners with Brookfield College to offer academic credits. A small school it typically has about 20-40 students on site, and is therefore able to offer very personalized attention

As a participant in an Spanish Immersion program in Costa Rica you have the opportunity to earn undergraduate Spanish credit from Brookhaven College in Dallas, Texas. This institution is accredited by SACS, the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. These are undergraduate, degree seeking Spanish credits for college and university students wanting to fulfil their home institution Spanish requirements. Obtaining advance approval from your institution is necessary, as each district, college, or state has its own policies regarding the types of credit it will accept.


SPAN 1100 - Spanish Conversation (1)
The course is a further exploration of the Spanish language through creative problem solving while utilizing the basic elements of the Spanish language. This course may be repeated for credit. (2 Lab.)

SPAN 1411 - Beginning Spanish I (4)
This course is an introductory course intended for students with little or no knowledge of the language. Its aim is to present essential vocabulary and grammar, and to develop the pronunciation, listening, reading, and writing skills necessary for basic communication and comprehension. Customs and cultural insights are also presented. (3 Lec, 2 Lab.)

SPAN 1412 - Beginning Spanish II (4)
This course continues the oral practice, reading, writing, grammar and cultural studies begun in Spanish 1411. Students are expected to acquire a substantial amount of vocabulary and begin to deal with idiomatic language and more advanced syntax. (3 Lec, 2 Lab)

SPAN 2306 - Spanish Conversation (3)
This course is designed to strengthen and improve oral skills in the language. Oral activities focus on current events, cultural, historical and social issues. Audio-visual media are used to explore Hispanic life and society. This course is intended to complement Spanish 2311. This course may be repeated for credit. Topics vary from semester to semester. (3 Lec.)

SPAN 2311 - Intermediate Spanish I (3)
This course is designed to further develop students' overall language proficiency and cultural knowledge through more advanced reading, listening, speaking and writing exercises. Grammatical concepts are reviewed and expanded. (3 Lec.)

SPAN 2312 - Intermediate Spanish II (3)
This course is a continuation of Spanish 2311. The stress is on reading, composition, grammatical complexities, and intense oral practice, with continued studies of the culture.(3 Lec.)

SPAN 2316 - Spanish for Business I (3)
This course exposes students to the Spanish language used in business, including the terminology and idioms of Spanish business language in special oral and written communication. Emphasis is placed on the structure and content of Spanish business correspondence. Authentic materials are used to give students a contemporary view of business as it is conducted in Hispanic society. This course is not a substitute for Spanish 2311 or 2312. (3 Lec.)

SPAN 2317 - Spanish for Business II (3)
This course is devoted to the continued development of business language skills with a focus on the accurate use of business vocabulary and business style. Emphasis is on preparing students to function using Spanish in a business setting via practice of receptive and productive linguistic skills. The course also provides training in cross-cultural communication skills and is designed to help students achieve levels of proficiency to meet foreign language needs for business and international trade. This course is not a substitute for Spanish 2311 or 2312. (3 Lec.)
