Saskatoon
has a publicly-funded Catholic school system of 15,000 students (43 different
Canadian high Schools) on the Western Canadian prairies. It is celebrating its
95th anniversary this year. Saskatoon has been offering international schooling
for many years. Each high School has about 1000 students in grades 9-12. The
atmosphere is very happy and our students have a lot of fun.
Saskatoon Catholic Schools are also an award winning organisation, winning the
world-wide LTM Star High School Award for 2006.
We have 15,000 students in 43 public schools. We have 80 + international
students, about .5 % of our population. Our high schools have an average
population of 1000 students with a maximum of 30 international students per
school (3%).
We work hard at drawing students from many different countries so as to
bring the world to our students and to keep the numbers low from any one
country. We have had students from approximately 20 countries: Korea,
China, Australia, Hong Kong, Macau, Thailand, Vietnam, Japan, Taiwan, India,
Argentina, Mexico, Brazil, Colombia, Pakistan, Cote d'Ivoire, South Africa,
Germany, Ukraine, and Italy. We always have 12-15 countries represented in
any school year.
Our teachers are highly educated, government-certified, professional, and
dedicated. Most have several university degrees. Students attending
Saskatoon Catholic high schools take courses in English language, history,
physical education, wellness, mathematics, science, and social studies. In
addition, students must take a course in biology, chemistry or physics, and
choose from electives such as music, art, drama or French. There is also a
program of studies for students whose first language is French, or for those
who wish to enter French immersion. We have certified ESL teachers and
offer ESL courses to all of our students.
The
Highlights
You will be
totally integrated into the Canadian High School system. As well as English, and
English support, you will be able to attend all normal Canadian high School
classes.
Many of
our students have very little English when they first arrive here.
International students benefit from full integration into classes where English
is the language of instruction. International students also take part in small
independent ESL classes that focus on their specific language needs. These
classes are credit courses which makes it easier to graduate sooner. |
