Salvador, where our school is located, is a city on the northeast coast of Brazil and the capital of the northeastern Brazilian state of Bahia. The city was for a long time also known as Bahia, and appears under that name on many maps and books. It is the biggest city in Northeastern Brazil, being a cultural center, not only for Brazil, but also for Latin America. The Pelourinho, as its historical district is known, is renowned for its baroque architecture.

The main characteristics  of Salvador are the great cultural variety, the influence of the African culture and the classic colonial architecture. 365 churches (one for each day of the year one) and a lot of museums are open for visitation. Salvador is a good city for balanced language holidays: sun, white and endless beaches, cultural life (theater, shows and music) and a fine, exotic Afro-Brazilian gastronomy.
