Bolivia is known as the Tibet of Latin America. This is due to its high altitude, its remoteness and also the nature of its people. It is Sandwiched between Peru, Paraguay, Argentina, Brazil and Chile and straddles the Andes. If you want to see the real Latin America, filled with colour and indigenous people that seem unchanged by the centuries, Bolivia is the destination for you. Bolivia possesses every possible climate and terrain from the snow capped peaks of over 6000 meters (20,000 feet) to the to the semi-tropical lowlands to the steaming jungles of the Amazon. A jewel in the crown is Lake Titicaca, the highest navigable inland sea in the world. It has crystal clear blue waters, reed boats and islands filled with pre-Colombian ruins. There are an amazing and also surprisingly huge variety of exotic birds, plants, insects, and animals. This is largely due to Bolivia's relatively sparse population, and undeveloped landscapes. |
